Museum of Fine Arts, Boston - Art of the Americas Wing

The centerpiece of the MFA’s historic expansion is a spectacular new wing for the Art of the Americas collection, which doubles the number of objects from the original collection on view, including several large-scale masterpieces not displayed for decades.

The new wing takes a global perspective on Art of the Americas, showcasing more than 5,000 works of art produced in North, Central, and South America over the course of three millennia. Art in all media is arranged chronologically on four floors. The wing's 53 brand-new galleries include nine beautiful period rooms and four Behind the Scenes galleries to enhance the way visitors experience and interact with the collection.

Designed by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, the new building at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is a distinctive architectural addition to Boston’s Fenway Cultural District. Set  approximately fifty feet behind the Museum’s historic palace, it stands no higher than the surrounding building fabric and features materials that respectfully complement the existing site and neighborhood.
